Volunteer Treasurer | AMaGA Victoria Branch Committee
AMaGA Victoria is seeking a Treasurer to join our Branch Committee in a voluntary capacity from February 2027 until mid-2028 (with option of term extension). This is an opportunity to contribute your financial expertise to a not-for-profit organisation supporting the museum, gallery and community heritage sector.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Treasurer provides independent financial oversight and advice to the Branch Committee, helping ensure sound financial management and informed decision-making.
Our Finance Manager prepares financial reports, and our Executive Director develops budgets, so this is an oversight and advisory role rather than a hands-on bookkeeping position. You’ll bring an independent perspective to our finances and help the Committee make informed decisions about the organisation’s future.
Key responsibilities include:
Reviewing financial reports ahead of Committee meetings and identifying emerging risks or issues.
Helping the Committee understand the organisation’s financial position and performance against budget.
Reviewing the annual budget and advising the Committee before it is approved.
Providing financial advice against strategic priorities.
Acting as a sounding board for the Executive Director and Finance Manager on financial matters.
Liaising with AMaGA National on financial matters as required.
ABOUT YOU
We’re looking for someone with:
Qualifications and experience in accounting, finance or financial management (CPA, CA or equivalent highly regarded).
An understanding of not-for-profit finances and governance.
The ability to interpret financial information and explain it clearly to people without a financial background.
An interest in Victoria’s cultural sector.
Experience serving on a board or committee would be welcome but is not essential.
TIME COMMITMENT & SUPPORT
The Branch Committee meets every two months, with financial reports provided in advance for review. The role involves preparing for and attending meetings, reviewing financial information and providing advice as needed. Some additional time may be required for the annual budget review or other financial matters.
You’ll be supported by our existing staff team and will not be responsible for day-to-day financial management or preparing financial reports.
HOW TO EXPRESS INTEREST
To express your interest, please email us at enquiries@amagavic.org.au with a brief statement outlining your relevant financial experience and why you’re interested in the role, as well as your contact details. You’re welcome to include a CV, but this is not essential.
Expressions of interest will be considered on a rolling basis. The role will be filled once a suitably qualified candidate is identified.
We’ll invite shortlisted applicants to a confidential, informal conversation to discuss their experience, the role and the expected time commitment.
