BLUNTS BOATYARD & OFFSHORE AND SPECIALIST SHIPS AUSTRALIA (OSSA)
Research Project: History of Blunt’s Wooden Boat Building Yard (circa 1840’s to present)
Project:
To confirm that Blunts Boatyard has remained in the same family’s ownership since the 1840’s (originally sited in east Geelong but 2026 will see the centenary of their continuous occupation of the premises in Williamstown)
To establish if possible that they are the oldest family owned and continuously operated wooden boat building concern in Australia.
With necessary help we are confident that we can amass enough material both written and anecdotal within the next 6 months to allow us to apply for a grant to employ an author to produce a book on this venerable company and have it published in time to celebrate the 100th anniversary next year.
The present principal of the company (Greg Blunt) has garnered copious amounts of archival material which requires to be curated by a person or persons with the necessary skill set to research, catalogue, and assemble in some sort of chronological order.
Location: C. Blunt Boat Builder, Nelson Place, Williamstown
