MITRAJA BAIS

Mitraja is a cultural heritage professional with over ten years of experience in the documentation, research, and interpretation of South Asian crafts and material culture. She is currently a Project Officer (Intern) at AMaGA Victoria and is pursuing a Master’s in Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies at Deakin University. She also holds a Master’s in Interior Architecture and Design from CEPT University, India.

Previously, Mitraja was the lead researcher for Phase 1 (Gujarat) of the Vernacular Furniture of India project, an international collaboration between DICRC, CEPT University, and the South Asian Decorative Arts and Crafts Collection (SADACC) Trust, UK. She co-authored Sahaj: Vernacular Furniture of Gujarat as part of this work.

Her research interests include material culture, intangible cultural heritage, and multicultural communities, with a focus on amplifying diverse cultural voices in museums and fostering meaningful connections between collections and communities.

In her spare time, Mitraja enjoys spending time in nature with her family and visiting museums and galleries with her six-year-old, who brings a technicoloured perspective to everyday life.
